Three Signs You Need Your Wisdom Teeth Removed
June 30, 2022 9:29 pmDespite the name, wisdom teeth don’t make us any wiser when, and if, they finally emerge. In fact, most of us end up getting them removed soon after they appear. In this post, we’ll cover three common signs that it may be time for your third molars to go.
1. Pain
As with anything when it comes to your health, persistent pain is a sure sign of an issue. And it’s never something you should ignore! If you’re experiencing pain related to your wisdom teeth, let your dentist know. They’ll evaluate the area and let you know if extraction is the next step, or if the pain is likely to resolve itself.
2. Shifting Smile
One of the major issues that can occur when your wisdom teeth grow in is that they can shift the rest of your teeth, altering your beautiful smile! Why does this happen? Wisdom teeth are actually leftover from when we used to eat a much tougher diet of things like twigs and raw meat. Think, centuries upon centuries ago. Humans have since evolved to have smaller jaws, so problems often occur when the additional, unneeded teeth finally appear.
3. Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Sometimes, the wisdom teeth don’t grow properly, causing issues beneath the surface of your gums. An impacted wisdom tooth may grow sideways, often causing pain, damage to other teeth, and other dental issues. Oftentimes, your dentist will recommend extraction if you do have an impacted wisdom tooth.
